Professional return-to-activity fitness testing. Objective cardiovascular assessment to support safe activity resumption after injury or surgery.

Safe return to activity requires multiple criteria:

  • Medical clearance from healthcare provider
  • Pain-free range of motion
  • Adequate strength (PT assessment)
  • Cardiovascular fitness (VO₂ max testing)
  • Functional movement patterns
  • Psychological readiness

VO₂ max testing provides objective fitness assessment:

  • Current cardiovascular capacity
  • Comparison to pre-injury baseline (if available)
  • Readiness for sport/activity demands
  • Training zones for safe progression

For athletes returning to competition:

  • Sport-specific equipment selection
  • Performance relative to sport demands
  • Conditioning phase guidance
  • Confidence building through data

After testing, create systematic return plan:

  • Phase 1: Low-intensity training in Zone 1-2
  • Phase 2: Add moderate intensity (Zone 3)
  • Phase 3: Sport-specific training (Zone 4-5)
  • Phase 4: Full return to competition

Proper return-to-activity pacing reduces re-injury risk:

  • Avoid "too much, too soon"
